Case Study
As this is my first time creating a mobile app promotional video, I first observed other mobile app promo videos and created notes on my viewing experience, particularly on eye tracking.
I researched their IJN's target audience in order for me to craft an appropriate layout design in respective of the audience's level of proficiency in using mobile apps. A quick read on the Straits Times Asia, New Straits Time, several published journals conclude that cardiovascular disease occur to those primarily in the 40 and above age group (with an alarming amount of patients above 30 years old now on the rise).
This therefore informs me that the premise of this mobile app promotional video direction should be:
* Short and concise
* Straight to the point
* With minimal motion for ease of viewing and understanding
(For patients that are primarily 40 years and above)
* Still in consistent with the IJN Corporate Colour Palette
* Accompanied by a firm tone of voice in terms of VO Narration
Storyboard
Upon receiving the first round of assets (mockups, icons, screenshots of features) and a script from the IJN team, I prepared a storyboard to determine the video's arrangement and sections, then later on, its visual flow.
I downloaded the app on my phone and played around with it. Regardless of the limitation of access to the full app features, I was able to extract some icons and screenshots from the given assets to do the best I could within the given time, to rework and manipulate in preparation for animation. This was done in both Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
The storyboard required 2 amendments due to the ongoing changing of features and assets that were simultaneously being updated by the IJN team. This resulted in a first draft that was 6-minutes long, so we had to edit the script and storyboard once again to fit everything into a 3-minute video.
For the first draft, I narrated the guide to determine its overall timing, pacing and as reference for the VO Artist later on in the
VO recording phase. We held the VO recording at Kamar Seni Studio, featuring the ever so talented Azaria.
